This is my final project for my advanced drawing class that I finished up about a month ago. It took forever to finish, but was certainly the most satisfying one to see completed. The idea for this assignment was to start with a quote, a passage, or any kind of written text for starting inspiration. So the quote could come from music lyrics, movie quotes, books, poems and the like. In my search for a quote, my art teacher had let me borrow her copy of "Something Wicked This Way Comes," and I found a quote at the very beginning that refers to Moby Dick:
"I know not all that may be coming, but be what it will, I'll go to it laughing." -Stubb from Moby Dick
Reading that quote kinda invoked an image of an epic giant slayer battle in my mind. Much like SotC, I'm afraid. I thought of a character that has this borderline-insane fearlessness, standing his ground against some mysterious, ominous beast giant. So that image was my starting point. *nods*
I really liked this assignment because well for one, I was sick of doing colored pencil projects. XD Secondly, I thought the process of creating a drawing using a quote as a starting point was quite cool. It was a nice break from the still lives that we were doing. Lastly, and perhaps most beneficially, I was able to practice what I'd learned from the figure drawing club that I attended at the time. Although I didn't really have any figure drawings of extremely muscular people that I could use for reference for this giant. D:
It's great to compare this with the preliminary drawings to see how it developed over time. I chuckle when I look at my scrapbook drawings and sketches for this. Haha.
